Drove through the corn. Stopped in a tall grass field with a dark tree mountain background. There was not a cloud to be seen. The moon was high and the stars were brilliant. The best part was the dew on the grass glistening in the moonlight. It was the most beautiful thing I have laid my eyes on in a while.

I live in oversized sweaters and undergarments. Raspberry chai teas and white hot chocolates.

I had the strangest dream last night. I needed to hide from some forces unknown, so I sawed off a gigantic branch of trees that were alive and big as mountains. After I hid inside the hollow hole the chief tree told me I would burn to death from destroying property that was not mine. I ran for my life with a boy I did not know. They had tracking machines made of cars. They emitted a blue metallic light if you passed them so we had to jump over every car we came across to avoid the force field. Eventually I was caught and the tree shoved a rainbow up my chin.

My new room is fantastic [under the cut]. I've been organizing things all morning for campus greens. I have a few projects in mind already. So exciting! I'll keep you posted. :)

I bought a new bike the other day with Cas. I fell in love with. Its a little rusty but who cares. Its perfect for what I need it for. Lately, I have been thrifting everything. You wouldn't believe the amount of money I have saved.

private
I love this picture Cas took of me. Not because it is of me, but everything else about it.
I'm chatting with my study abroad advisor right now. I cannot believe it is actually happening. It sort of seemed like a dream that was just floating around it my head..but never to be followed through. I AM GOING TO ENGLAND FOR THREE MONTHS. That is the first time I have said it. It felt great.

It is already 11:00!? I have so much to do; just so I do not forget:
1) Mail Kate's package
2) Laundry
3) E-mail Professor Casagrande
4) Finish One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
5) Start Les Miserables
6) Clean my room
7) Put in my last day at work
8) Pack for vacation; pack for school! [my boxes are being picked up in a week!]
9) Order my textbooks online

I am sure that I have forgotten five things already.

Bike under the cut!

I just found an old poetry portfolio from my freshman year in high school. At that bottom of the grading rubric it reads:

"Megan -
This is by far the best student poetry I have ever read. Think about submitting some to DejaVu, the school's poetry magazine. There is an anomymous drop box inside the English office door.... At the very least keep up your writing! You have a fantastic talent."

The second portfolio is from my senior year in high school: [he was my favorite teacher]
I was the only student he ever gave an A to.

"You are a seriously strong fiction writer. Your talents are developed way beyond your age. Hope to see published works in your future!"

.. I fear I may have lost my touch.

I need to stop falling in" love" with fictitious characters from novels/movies/t.v. series. It makes reality so much harder. Sometimes I think I immerse myself in these things so I do not feel as lonely.

Oh well, it shall pass. It always does!

I keep feeling increasingly guilty about spending money lately. I do not know why either; I work two jobs and make a sufficient amount at each yet I get this sense of paranoia after my purchases even though I rarely buy anything. My younger brother has nearly $11,000 in the bank. $11,000!! Sure, he has not hit college yet but he will this year. I cannot even begin to rack my mind about how he has done it. Right now, I probably have about $1,500 total. Anyway, I guess I will just sit here and stare at my receipt to contemplate whether or not to return things.

I have finally decided on a place to study abroad. I have chosen England! Many reasons for this. My parents have both been to London and my uncle goes there for business all the time. After looking through their pictures and hearing their stories, I am more than convinced. My parents are all in. Also, think of all the other places that are in visiting distance while I'm there! Italy, France, Spain, Poland... etc, etc! Australia was my original choice but my mom was uncomfortable with me being on the other side of the world. Someday.

Well, well! I've been wandering around. Mostly cooking/baking. Painting. Reading. Photographing. Spending needed time with the right people. Click to see recipes and good things.

I have tried these so far:
-Vegan Brownies [with vegan chocolate chips & walnuts]
-Lemon Poppyseed Shortbread Cookies
-Peanut Butter Cookies [half with chocolate mixed in]

-Grilled Asparagus with Teriyaki sauce and fresh garlic
-Plum Tomatoes and Artichokes with Penne Pasta
-Grilled "Chicken" Caesar Pita
-Crunchy peanut butter/honey/green apple/banana sandwiches [tastes WAY better than it sounds]
-Meatless Meatballs [FAVORITE new Trader Joes discovery} in pasta dishes or on flaky buns with marinara sauce, italian seasoning, and mozzerella cheese
-Vegetable Wraps [tomato basil wraps with green peppers, black olives, red onions, spinach, shredded parmesean, tomatoes, and either caesar dressing or oil and vinegar]
-Favorite so far:
Vegan

Books:
-Reread Order of the Pheonix & Half Blood Prince
-Wuthering Heights
-Roald Dahl's collection of short stories [for adults; SO GOOD]
-Beedle The Bard
-Lolita

Most Recent [completed] painting:

Only two reasons why I love my hair:
If I do not blow dry it.. it does this
mane

If I do blow dry it.. it does this
straight

I cannot wait until it grows a few more inches.

Things are sky high!

And a good friend is asleep on my couch. And my eyes are fighting off sleep. And my dog is drooling on my knee.

"Nostalgia - it's delicate, but potent. Teddy told me that in Greek, 'nostalgia' literally means 'the pain from an old wound.' It's a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone. This device isn't a spaceship, it's a time machine. It goes backwards, and forwards... it takes us to a place where we ache to go again. It's not called the wheel, it's called the carousel. It let's us travel the way a child travels - around and around, and back home again, to a place where we know we are loved."

-Mad Men episode 113, "The Wheel"

I think I may attempt Erin's vegan brownie recipe later.

A euphoric dream turned into chaos for a second. The introvert in me started to scramble away and nothing but silence and solitude would confine it back to the cage in my chest. Every neon color illuminated my brain, blurring my vision into a prism of watercolor apparitions. I slipped out of consciousness and drifted away, leaving my body in a puddle on the floor.

This is the first time I have been inside all weekend, besides for sleeping of course.

I went and saw a homesteaders farm on Saturday by invitation from my Anthropology professor, Dr. Casagrande, and a few other students. It was incredible! I learned so much from this man and his family. Don't you wish you could have a tape recorder with you sometimes? Or a fantastic memory? So you could playback everything someone told you. Thats how I feel about this guy. He explained to us how to make maple syrup, apple cider, cheese, soap, vinegar, etc. He grows just about every vegetable and fruit you can imagine. Not to mention garlic and other spices. He generates all of his own electricity and built a green house out of a school bus. It started to rain so we fetched a ladder and climbed up into the barn to have a conversation while sitting on hay. It involved religion, education, and nature--the three things I love talking about most. I'm really starting to appreciate my time here. I have found the people and the opportunities that satisfy me. It is sparking a gigantic change in my lifestyle and I know I'm heading down a much larger path.

I have been spending more time with Alyssa; I like her a lot.

I wish I had my camera at EarthFest. It was so great! Campus greens and I sold most of our vegan brownies (Erin gave me the recipe, I am ecstatic!) and organic popcorn. I painted plenty of faces, listened to some music, doodled with chalk, and blew blueberry bubbles!

This weekend was better than most. An escape to Kibbe for two days and a night was much needed. I trotted down nature beaten paths with a german shepherd as my guide. It was wonderful; I came across small waterfalls and flowers just starting to bloom.

Also, I heard a cover of Edelweiss by one of my favorite female vocalists and it brought me swiftly back to my childhood. If there is one movie that sums up my younger years, it is the Sound of Music without a doubt. I wish to be bundled up in blankets on my grandfathers velvet armchair, sipping honey tea with biscotti's, singing along.

I started a private blog of my second world. I think I'll post a snippet or two soon. It is channelling portions of my creative writing skills I have not used in ages. The result is satisfying.
